Speech Sound Pic® Chants
Phonemies are fun 'speech sound monster' characters that each say a sound of English.
The 'pictures' of their sounds are displayed in the Spelling Clouds®! Speech Sound Pics® are also known as 'graphemes'. Pictures of sounds are an easier concept for toddlers however.

When children can recognise, blend and segment the Green Code Level and Purple Code Level Sound Pics® (graphemes) children start the 'Monster Mapped' 36 Pre-Readers. They work through these alongside their usual Code Level readers. The routine to use with these books with Mapped Words® will be shared here shortly.

The Coding Poster Video Lessons are in the ICRWY Lessons app.
Children watch their Code Level Video Lesson.
They then complete the Coding Poster, spending around 90 seconds on each activity.
There are six activities:
-
Visual Prompts
-
Sound Pic (grapheme) recognition and formation
-
Code Level Words (blending the Code Level Sound Pics)
-
Chants (seen above)
-
High-Frequency Words (Duck Level words)
-
Putting it all together – Code Level Sentences!
This means that 25 children can work alongside one another, each focusing on the GPCs and HFWs they are currently learning.
This approach, known as Spaced Repetition, frees up the teacher—who simply walks around and monitors. The tech teaches, and the children demonstrate mastery. It’s a much more hands-on, multisensory approach that gives children a sense of ownership over their learning as they set the pace.
