Speech Sound Mapping: Discovery Learning in Mind
When you show the code, you don't need to 'explicitly teach' the concepts—the 'Code Mapping®' (black/grey to indicate the Sound Pics®/graphemes) plus the Phonemies to show the sound value just make sense to children's brains.
Word Mapping Mastery!
ICRWY Lessons

Little Mappers launches soon, offering new lessons and resources designed to introduce toddlers to 'Phonemies' and help them understand word mapping long before they begin learning grapheme-to-phoneme correspondences! Phase 1 can be used in a variety of ways.
In the Reception classroom, teachers guide the class through Phase 1 during the first week, introducing six 'pictures of speech sounds' (graphemes) toward the end of the week.
In Phase 2, children work through four 'Code Levels' at their own pace. On average, it takes them eight months to complete the synthetic phonics content, which would typically take at least two years if all children were required to progress in the same way and at the same speed. They also begin the 1, 2, 3 and Away! series once they reach the end of the Purple Code Level.
During Phase 2 there is a 30 minute routine.

Join the Word Mapping Mastery Community! We follow the Speech Sound Pics (SSP) Approach GPC teaching order but in ways that are multisensory, enabling children to quickly start learning at their own pace using the Coding Poster and other popular resources. We work both 'speech to print' and 'print to speech' to ensure EVERY child develops the phonemic awareness needed to 'glue' words into the orthographic lexicon—connecting speech sounds (phonemes), pictures of speech sounds (graphemes), and their meanings.
Discover Miss Emma's Speech Sound Mapping Theory! Children SEE the graphemes, as the words are Code Mapped with the Mapping Tool, and SEE the 'sound value' using the Phonemies! We do not allow ANY child to struggle with 'phonics'.
